The Brampton Beast will be the Newfoundland Growlers most frequent opponent during the 2018-19 ECHL regular season — the teams will face each other 13 times.
But the Beast and the Growlers will already be familiar with each other by the time they meet up Oct. 27, in Brampton, Ont., where they will make some history in the first ever all-Canadian matchup in ECHL history.
The Beast will travel to Newfoundland for an unspecified number of pre-season games. It will all be tied in with the Growlers’ training camp.
“We will be having training camp in Newfoundland,” said Growlers chief executive officer Glen Stanford. “ And we’re working (on scheduling exhibition games.) now, We’re trying to do similar things that we did with the American Hockey League, going out west, playing outside of St. John’s.”
In the past the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps and Maple Leafs held training camps in Gander and Corner Brook, and played exhibition games in those towns, as well as Stephenville, Grand Falls-Windsor, Clarenville and Southern Shore (Mobile).
