The provincial government, Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador and the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association are partners in the effort.
It will be the second major announcement by Hockey NL this week.
On Wednesday, it announced its high performance program (HPP) summer provincial camp will be held at the two ice pads at the Corner Brook Civic Centre beginning in August of 2018. The agreement is for three years, with an option for renewal in 2020.
The program, which has been held in Gander, was last held in Corner Brook in 2003.
The programis for male under-14, U15 and U16 teams as well as female U16 and U18 sides, and exposes participants to a high level of coaching and training methods, developmental and education curriculum, and consistent evaluation criteria and standards. The program is used to identify the top players in the province for provincial, as well as, future regional and national teams, including the Canada Winter Games teams every four years.
