There’s another hockey player from Newfoundland and Labrador headed to the junior A ranks of the British Columbia Hockey League.
Matt McKim, 18, of St. John’s will be joining the Surrey Eagles next season after leading his St. Andrew’s College prep school team of Ontario in scoring last season with 74 points in 50 games.
The BCHL is one of the top junior A circuits in the country.
Last season, Alex Newhook of St. John’s was the BCHL’s top rookie after starring for the Victoria Grizzlies. Newhook has committed to Boston College and will return to the Grizzlies next season, if he doesn’t sign with the QMJHL’s Halifax Mooseheads, who hold his major junior rights.
Goalie Zach Rose of Paradise also played with the Grizzlies and will join the Bowling Green University NCAA squad in the fall. Bonavista’s Nick Abbott played for the Powell River Kings in the BCHL last season.
