Two Newfoundland and Labrador teams are in Winnipeg this week for competition in Canadian men’s ball hockey championships.

In the men’s A champions, the province is once more represented by NL Black Horse, while the Colonial Auto Parts Selects are again entered in the masters men’s (40-plus) division.

Both teams earned national medals in 2017 in Saint John. N.B.

Last year, Colonial Parts took the silver after an overtime loss in the masters final, while Black Horse took a bronze despite losing just once  — in a semifinal matchup against the eventual champion Edmonton Savages — in six games.

In Winnipeg, Black Horse will get an early chance for revenge as they take on the Savages in their first preliminary-round game this afternoon. There are a total of 10 teams divided into two pools in the men’s A championship, with the Newfoundlanders slotted with the Savages, another team from Edmonton and two  — Brampton and New Tecumseh —out of Ontario.
There are six teams in the masters competition, which gets underway Wednesday. Colonial Auto Parts will face Team Saskatchewan, the Toronto Capitals and Manitoba True North.

In the men’s A championship, the top four finishers in each of the five-team pools advance to cross-over playoffs, while all six teams masters will advance to playoff competition.
