The Gulls, the farm team of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, have signed Melindy to a one-year AHL contract for 2017-18.
Melindy spent most of last season with the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder, but got into three games with San Diego after signing a professional tryout contract towards the end of the season. He had an assist and 27 penalty minutes in that short stint, and even though the six-foot-three, 205-pounder didn’t see any post-season action, Melindy wasn’t released from his PTO until after the Gulls finished their playoff run in mid May.
In 68 games with Wichita, Melindy had three goals, 14 assists and 229 PIM in 68 games.
A third-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2012, he spent three years in the Coyotes’ organization, mostly with ECHL teams, but also saw action in 49 games with the AHL’s Portland Pirates.
