Province defending titles at Atlantic AAA hockey championships

Newfoundland and Labrador will be out to defend its titles starting today as the Atlantic AAA peewee and bantam hockey championships kick off in Conception Bay South and Cornwall, P.E.I

The Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association will play host to the Bell Aliant Atlantic peewee AAA championship.

The provincial champion St. John’s Hitmen will represent the province, while the B&B Electrical Tricom Thunder, runners-up in the all-Newfoundland final, are the host team.

In P.E.I., the Thunder will wear Newfoundland and Labrador’s colours at the Atlantic AAA bantam championship in Cornwall.

St. John’s Hitmen teams won both AAA Atlantic events in 2016.

In peewee play today at the C.B.S. Arena, the Hitmen plays Nova Scotia at 1:30 p.m., while the host Thunder take on Nova Scotia at 7 p.m.

The opening ceremonies are at 6:30 p.m., with St. John’s native Tyler Boland, the second-leading score in the QMJHL this season, scheduled to take part in the ceremonial puck drop.

The final in the event goes noon Sunday.

In P.E.I., the bantam Thunder face Nova Scotia 4:30 p.m. (NL time) today.

That championship wraps up with the gold-medal game 2 p.m. (NL time) Sunday.

The Hitmen peewee team is comprised of Anna Barrington, Nicholas Branton, Liam Bridger, Sam Butler, Perry Cahill, Thomas Chafe, Tyler Cook, Logan Cuza, Mason Dawe, Kirkland Edwards, Michael Fallows, Justin Hepditch, Cruz Loughlin, Deklon Randell-Snow, Matteo Rotondi, Connor Ryan, Stephen Ryder, James Stamp, Andrew Veitch, Charles Walsh, Ronan Whitten and Owen Wright.

Suiting up for the Thunder are Travis Badcock, Riley Baker, Ayden Brothers, Andrew Butt, Luke Dunn, Jaden Dyke, Tanner Hawkins, Reegan Hiscock, Liam Kelly, Caleb Loveless, Liam Marshall, Kyle McGuire, Connor Molloy, James Noonan, Jacob Payne, John Randell, Dakota Snow, Michael Strapp, J.T. Tobin, Mitchell Wagner, Braeden Walsh, Keegan Warren and Evan Wicks.

Members of the Tri-Com Thunder AAA bantams are Andrew d’Entremont, Josh Pretty, Kieran Burke, Brendan Cutler, Zachary Dean, Alexander Doody, Nathan Flynn, Alexander French, Ryan Green, Mark Hill, Nathan Kelly, Kyle Lynch, Nicholas Moore, Ethan Moore, Spencer Reed, Andrew Stuckless and Chase Wellon.
