Regular season over, playoff picture painted in St. John's junior league

The playoff matchups are set in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League following completion of the regular season over the weekend.

All eight teams are in the post season, with the first round featuring a best-of-five series. Most series start next weekend, although the third-place Mount Pearl Mark’s Blades (16-8-3) play host to the sixth-place Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Home Hardware Flyers (10-14-4) 8 o’clock Thursday night at the Glacier.

The other matchups are first-place Southern Shore C&W Offshore Breakers (21-5-2) against eighth-place Northeast Pizza Delight Stavanger Drive Eagles (3-21-4), second-place St. John’s Cowan Ave. Dental Caps (20-7-1) and seventh-place C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars (11-17) and fourth-place Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals (18-10) and fifth-place CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades (12-12-3).

Liam Hynes of the Breakers won the league scoring title with 27 goals and 31 assists in 28 games. He finished 13 points ahead of Andrew Paul of Avalon, who had 28 goals and 17 assists.

Other results from the final weekend of the regular season:

• Jordan Coombs scored twice as the Stars beat the Flyers 5-4. Connor Stevens had two in a losing cause

• Michael Broders and Stephen Predham both had a pair of goals as the Blades beat the Renegades 7-2

• The Capitals slipped past the Caps 5-4 with Paul and David Penney both scoring twice for Avalon. Robbie Everson netted a pair for St. John’s. Curtis Barrett made 53 saves for Avalon.
