St. John's junior hockey: Breakers beat Stars to extend first-place lead

The league-leading Southern Shore Breakers got goals from five different players as they downed the CBN Stars 5-2 in a rare Monday-night game in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League.

Scoring for the Breakers (17-3-1) were Peter Kavanagh, Shayne Kavanagh, Blake Dalton, Kieran O’Driscoll and Mitchell O’Driscoll.
Reilly Dearing and Christian Dawe replied for the CBN (7-13-0) in the game, which was played at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts.
The goalies were busy in this one, with Conor Parsons of the Stars facing 48 shots and Josh Cleary dealing with 47 for the Breakers, who move five points up on the second-place St. John’s Caps.
Next up on the league schedule is the annual SJJHL all-star game, to be held 8 p.m. Wednesday night at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.
