The 2017-18 St. John’s Junior Hockey League’s regular season closes out this weekend with eight games.
The Mount Pearl Blades and CBR Renegades have already clinched first and second place, respectively, and the Southern Shore Breakers can lay claim to third with a win or extra time loss against the Avalon Capitals tonight in Mobile.
There is still much to sort out further down the standings, but there won’t be battles to make the post-season — just jockeying for position — as all eight of the league’s teams make the playoffs.
One first-round matchup is established, with the last-place Northeast Eagles set to take on Mount Pearl.
In other games tonight, the Conception Bay North Stars, who still have a shot at overtaking the Breakers for third place, take on the St. John’s Caps at Twin Rinks and Northeast visits CBR at the C.B.S. Arena, where the Renegades will look to continue some of the magic they came up with earlier this week; on Tuesday, CBR got two goals in the final minute of the third period for an 8-7 win over the visiting Trinity-Placentia Flyers.
