There will be no easing back into the schedule for teams in the St. John’s Junior Hockey League.
The SJJHL ends what will almost be a three-week holiday break this weekend with eight games — each of the league’s eight teams playing two games — beginning with Friday-night contests in Mobile and Bay Roberts.
The latter features a matchup between the league-leading Southern Shore Breakers and third-place Mount Pearl Blades, a couple of the clubs involved in a multi-team battle for top spot. Not counting games in hand, only three points separate the league-leading Breakers and fourth-place Avalon Capitals, who are part of Friday’s other contest one which seems them taking the C.B.N. Stars at Bay Arena.
That the league is so immediately busy as it gets back into action is not surprising. The eight games being played over three days this weekend actually equals the total number of SJJHL games played in December, which featured not only the Christmas-time hiatus, but also an earlier two-week break during school exam time.
