The Mount Pearl Blades became the first St. John’s Junior Hockey League team to reach 20 wins on the 2017-18 season with a 3-1 win over the Avalon Capitals Sunday night.

The Blades have only two losses this year, one in regulation time and one in OT.

At The Glacier in Mount Pearl, the Blades got goals from Bobby Upshall, Michael Broders and Colin O’Neill. Jatley Jardine had the only Avalon goal.

Shots on goal were an even 38-38. Blades goalie Brandon Short and his Capitals’ counterpart, Aaron Small, were the Jungle Jim’s players of the game.

Justin Hann scored three goals and assisted on another, Nathan Peters had a goal and three helpers and Dylan McKenzie potted a pair as the St. John’s Caps outscored the Southern Shore Breakers 8-7 Saturday night.

At Twin Rinks, Stephen Mallard and Kyler Lind also scored for the Caps. Blake Dalton and Liam Hynes both had big games for the Breakers, with the former scoring three goals and three assists, while the latter had two goals and three helpers. Marcus Ralph and Daniel Aylward netted singles.

At the C.B.S. Arena, Lucas Lush scored twice, Blake Fudge had a goal and two assists and Drew Stonehouse collected three assists as the CBR Renegades defeated the C.B.N. Stars 5-2. Andrew Barron and Nick David also scored, and Shawn Hurley made 41 saves. Riley Deering and Michael Mason had the C.B.N. goals.

Friday night, Seamus Sloane got the game-winning goal in the shootout as the Breakers beat the Northeast Eagles 4-3 at the Southern Shore Arena. Dalton had two goals and Hynes had the other for the Shore. Max French, Tyler Anthony and Kyle Champion found the mark for the Eagles.

At the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts, the homestanding C.B.N. Stars beat the Trinity-Placentia Flyers 5-2. Scoring for the Stars were Andrew Churchill, Ryan Dawson, Mark Barrett, Jordan Coombs and Daniel Hickey. Riley Mayne and Lyndon Thorne had the Flyers’ goals.
