Three-peat for major midget Maple Leafs

The St. John’s Maple Leafs wrapped up their third straight Newfoundland and Labrador Major Midget Hockey League championship Sunday with a 7-2 win over the Tri-Pen Osprey at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts.

The Leafs took the best-of-seven final in straight games, and will now represent the province in the major midget Atlantics in Miramichi, N.B., beginning the end of the month.
It was a banner season for St. John’s, which led the major league from start to finish this year. The Leafs finished with a 37-5 record in provincial play this season.
Kyle McGrath, Tyler Power and Cody Langmead all scored two goals Sunday. Michael Williams had a goal and two assists and Nathan Kenny collected two helpers. Kyle Tetford and Liam Leonard replied.
Saturday at The Glacier in Mount Pearl, Curtis Heffernan had a goal and an assist, and McGrath had two helpers as the Leafs won 3-2. Cody Langmead had the hot hand Friday night with four goals and an assist, and Josh Langmead made 51 saves as the Leafs won 6-4 Friday night in Mount Pearl.
