Two-win weekend for Breakers, Caps and Capitals

The Southern Shore C&W Offshore Breakers, Avalon Roebothan McKay Marshall Capitals and Cowan Heights Dental Centre St. John’s Caps all registered a pair of wins over the weekend as the St. John’s Junior Hockey League resumed its 2016-17 schedule.

The Breakers received an overtime goal from Blake Dalton to beat the Aberdeen Ave. Pizza Delight Northeast Eagles 5-4 Sunday at Jack Byrne Arena. Donovan Warren had two goals for the Shore. Brandon Short stopped 60 shots for the Eagles.

Friday night, at the Southern Shore Arena, Liam Hynes scored twice as the Breakers downed Mount Pearl Mark’s Blades 5-2.

As for the Capitals, Andrew Paul fired four goals and assisted on another in a 7-4 Saturday night win over the Trinity-Placentia I.J. Smith Home Building Centre Flyers at the Goulds Arena. Friday, at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts, Ben Cleary had two unassisted goals for Avalon in a 6-3 decision over the C.B.N. MoorFrost Stars.

The Caps beat the Blades 3-2 in a shootout Sunday night at The Glacier. Matthew Smith’s shootout goal gave the Caps the win. On Saturday night at Twin Rinks, Smith had a goal and three assists and Nathan Peters netted a pair in a 7-2 win over C.B.N.

In one other game, at the C.B.S. Arena Saturday night, the homestanding CBR Assante Wealth Management Renegades beat the Eagles 6-5. Nicholas David had two goals for CBR and Josh Taylor scored twice for Northeast. Short stopped 46 pucks for the Eagles.
