Tyler Kirby scored three goals, Jake Warren scored twice and Isaac Bonisteel produced a goal for a fourth straight game as defending champion Holy Cross pummeled first-year Paradise SC 8-1 in Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup provincial men’s soccer action.
At the Dianne Whalen Complex in Paradise, Alex Dolomount and Scott Woodfine also scored for the first-place Crusaders, while Greg Furlong had the lone goal for the home side.
The result, moved Holy Cross three points ahead of second-place Feildians, which had a 1-1 tie and a 1-0 loss in weekend road games against the St. Lawrence Laurentians.
League-leading scorer Tyler Forsey had the Laurentians’ goal in both contests, with John Douglas posting the shutout in St. Lawrence’s Saturday win.
On Sunday, the Feildians’ Marek Nakonieczny scored with just two minutes left in regulation to give the Double Blues the tie and the single point that now stands as the difference between them and the third-place Laurentians.
In the weekend’s other Challenge Cup game. Mount Pearl ProActive Physio registered its first win of the season, blanking Paradise 2-0 Saturday at the Gushue Complex.
Matthew Lahey and Craig Seymour scored the goals while Alex Smith posted the shutout.
