Jessie Noseworthy scored twice for the provincial champions in a 6-0 rout of Saskatchewan Thursday. Holy Cross opened the tournament Wednesday with a 2-1 win over Quebec.
Teri Murphy, Jane Pope, Connie Lewis and Alyssa Armstrong also scored for the winners. Noseworthy and Murphy also had the goals against Quebec.
Jamie Crocker posted the shutout.
Holy Cross is off today. The medal round starts Saturday, and Newfoundland’s opponent is not yet determined.
Meanwhile, the Holy Cross Challenge Cup men dropped their second straight game, losing 3-1 to Nova Scotia. Tyler Kirby scored for Holy Cross, who lost 1-0 to Saskatchewan Wednesday.
Holy Cross is off today, and plays Alberta 3:45 p.m. (NL time) Saturday.
At the under-17 nationals in Fredericton, N.B., Newfoundland, represented by Feildians, improved to 1-1 with a 2-0 win over New Brunswick. Cameron Lundrigan and Ben Noftall had the goals, and Jacob Dyer and Christopher Longtin shared the shutout. The U17 girls from St. John’s are 0-1 following a 2-1 loss to Manitoba Thursday. Regan Mahoney had the Newfoundland goal.
At the U15 nationals in Calgary, Newfoundland is represented by a pair of St. John’s teams. The boys were thumped 4-0 by Quebec in their first game Thursday. The U15 girls, at 1-0, did not play Thursday.
