The Holy Cross victory was one of two wins for Newfoundland on the day. At the Canadian under-15 girls’ championship, St. John’s blanked the Northwest Territories 1-0.
In Surrey, Teri Murphy scored 15 minutes in, and Jessie Noseworthy made it 2-0 at 63 minutes for Holy Cross. The Quebecers made a game of it with a goal at the 80-minute mark, but Holy Cross shut the door the rest of the way.
Holy Cross plays 2:30 p.m. NL time today against Saskatchewan.
On the men’s side, Holy Cross Kirby Group dropped a 1-0 decision to Saskatchewan in Challenge Cup play.
Ironically enough, Holy Cross was sunk on a goal by former teammate Steven DeLong, now with the Prairie squad.

At the Canadian under-17 championships in Fredericton, N.B., Feildians from St. John’s dropped a 2-0 decision to B.C. in boys’ play. The Double Blues play New Brunswick 4:30 p.m. (NL time) today.
The St. John’s girls play their first game in the U17s 10:30 this morning (NL time) against Manitoba.
Calgary is the site of the U15 championships, and it’s where Ashley O’Neill scored the goal as St. John’s blanked the Territories.
