Shooting hoops during the hot days of summer appears to be a growing trend on the west coast.
The Humber Valley Basketball Summer League wrapped up a fine season with championships declared in all divisions earlier this week at Corner Brook High.
The league grew from two divisions of 56 budding basketball players last summer to three divisions and 90 players in 2018.
The Spurs won the girls championship with a 36-22 victory over the Suns with Danielle Hoven leading the charge with a 12-point game.
Hope Evoy drained 10 points to support the offensive charge for the victors.
Rebecca Pye had 10 points as the top scorer for the Suns, while Grace O’Brien threw in six points in a losing effort.
Meanwhile, Mason Pawley drained 18 points to lead the Celtics to a 34-30 win over the Warriors in the showdown for top honours in the U12 male division.
Matthew Power had six points for the winners.
Brodie was the top gun for the Warriors with 10 points, while benchmate Ryan Lushman collected eight points.
The Rockets, with Ian Davis and Matthew Hann picking up 14 points apiece, won the title in the U14 male division with a 45-33 victory over the Mavericks.
Jonathan Webb was the top shooter for the Mavericks with a 17-point performance, while Corbin Nelson supported the offence with eight points.
