Holy Cross/Avalon Ford gave up its first goal of the season, but nevertheless easily posted its sixth win in as many games in Breen’s Jubilee Trophy women’s soccer play on a chilly Monday night at King George V Park.
Kate Hickey scored half her team’s goals as defending champion and 2017 national bronze-medallist Holy Cross blasted the St. John’s Under-17 entry 8-1.
The eight goals is exactly the season average so far for Holy Cross, which has outscored the opposition 48-1 in 2018.
Jessie Noseworthy, Teri Murphy, Holy O’Neill and Maria Mackey also scored for Holy Cross.
Alex Murphy had the lone goal for the losers. It wasn’t just the first goal against the Crusaders this season; it was also the first goal of the campaign for the U17s, who are winless in four outings.
