Junior Hockey: Two-win weekend for St. John's Caps

The St. John’s Caps registered a pair of 3-1 victories over the weekend in St. John’s Junior Hockey League play.
Sunday at the Whitbourne Stadium, Liam Maher had a goal and an assist and Jordan Richards had two helpers as the Caps downed the Trinity-Placentia Flyers 3-1. That followed a 3-1 St. John’s win over the Avalon Capitals Saturday night at Twin Rinks.
Elsewhere Sunday, Avalon downed the Northeast Eagles 6-4 at Jack Byrne Arena. The Mount Pearl Blades and C.B.N. Stars played Sunday night at the Mount Pearl Glacier.
In another game Saturday, Nicholas David had two goals and two assists, Blake Fudge had two goals and a helper, while Mitchell Lawlor scored once and assisted on two others as the CBR Renegades beat the Southern Shore Breakers 8-3 at the C.B.S. Arena.
Friday night, Cameron Simms’s second goal of the game, at 5:47 of overtime, lifted the Stars over the Renegades 4-3 at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts. At the Southern Shore Arena, the Eagles downed the Breakers 5-3 on Brandon Sexton’s two goals. Kyle Champion collected three assists and Josh Langmead made 56 saves.
