Margaret Henley, the starting setter and a captain for Newfoundland and Labrador’s female volleyball team at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg, will be playing for Memorial University next fall.
Henley, a senior Holy Heart of Mary High School in St. John’s, recently signed her letter of intent with Memorial.
The MVP of the provincial under-18 championship, Henley was also an all-star in the provincial U17 and U16 tourneys, and winner of Holy Heart’s most spirited athletic award.
Sea-Hawks head coach describes John Slauenwhite describes Henley “as a very dynamic athlete, who through her hard work and dedication has transformed herself into a top setting recruit.”
Slauenwhite has a very good idea of what Henley can do. She’s been a member of the Sea-Hawks High Performance Club the last three seasons, giving her the opportunity to train and interact with current Memorial players.
“Playing varsity has been a goal of mine since I discovered my love for volleyball six years ago,” said Henley, who plans on pursuing a bachelor of science degree. “I’ve always looked up to members of the Sea-Hawks and was coached by many.”
