The Memorial Sea-Hawks have gone overseas for their latest men’s soccer recruit.
Sean Ray of East Peckham, England is joining the team for the 2018-19 season.
Ray played youth soccer with Pembury Athletic FC, earning two player-of-the-year and two top scorers awards in three seasons.
He then joined Aylesford FC, leading the Kent County league in scoring with 20 goals in 18 games.
Most recently, Ray has been playing with Roseland FC, averaging a goal a game over the first 15 games of the season.  He also secured a trial with Charlton Athletic. The former Premier League team now in League One, the third division of English soccer. He was invited to Charlton’s development academy, but was unable to commit to the program due to school commitments.
“I am thrilled to have landed such a player from the UK to come play for us at Memorial.” said Sea-Hawks head coach Jake Stanford in a release from Memorial Athletics.
“Sean is a very talented and skilled attacking style player who has proven to be a goal scorer at all levels of soccer that he played in England. I expect Sean to have an immediate impact with our team.”
Ray said he decided to become a Sea-Hawk after talking with Stanford.
“I chose Memorial because the interest from Coach Stanford and other people involved with the soccer team was great,” he said.
“They made me feel wanted and from looking at the university, it just looked like a great place to call home.”
