Bonia won gold and silver medals at the national youth track and field championship last summer, and a silver medal in the Hershey national indoor championship. She ran in the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg as the youngest member of the province’s track and field delegation. Bonia reached the B finals in the 400 and 800 metres.

French was the MVP in the provincial AAA bantam baseball championship last summer, helping the Mount Pearl Blazers to the championship. He was named to the tournament all-star team at the under-15 baseball nationals.

French also plays hockey, with the provincial major midget champion St. John’s Maple Leafs.

The male youth of the year was Nathan Pitts. Pitts is a member of the O’Donel Patriots high school hockey team and senior ‘B’ basketball team, despite sitting out his Grade 10 and 11 years with concussion issues.

In addition to sports, Pitts is an A student at O’Donel.

The team of the year award went to the Mount Pearl-Paradise YBC senior boys bowling team.
