The Conception Bay South volleyball player and senior at Mount Pearl Senior High, will play for the York University Lions beginning next fall.

Lake is one of a number of members of Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2017 Canada Games team who were left to look exclusively outside the province for collegiate athletic opportunities after Memorial University dropped its men’s volleyball program.

He found it in Ontario with York, which finished first in the OUA East last year and is tied for the division lead at the halfway mark of the current season.

Lions men’s volleyball coach Michael Wahbi saidd York will be getting a true student-athlete in Lake, noting he “is averaging well over 90%” in his Grade 12 year.

Lake has participated in the Newfoundland provincial championships at the U16, U17 and U18 levels and earned tournament all-star honours all three times. He also represented Newfoundland at the 2015 Eastern Elite U15 championships, where he was named an all-star.
