Of the dozen Newfoundlanders skating in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season, the leading point-getter is defenceman Adam Holwell of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
As of Friday, the 20-year-old from St. John’s had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 20 games for the Titan, who owned a 10-5-5 record entering the weekend.
Holwell, who was named the Quebec league’s defenceman of the month for October, is the second-leading scorer for Bathurst, is tied for third in scoring by QMJHL rearguards and his plus/minus rating of plus 16 is tied for third among all players in the circuit. The next-best plus/minus on Bathurst is plus eight.
Ten of Holwell’s points have come on the power play. He is also the Titan leader in that regard.
This is the fifth QMJHL season for Holwell, who is playing as an overager. Between Bathurst and the Moncton Wildcats, with whom he started his junior career, he has 22 goals and 87 assists. He is also just 18 games shy of achieving the relative rarity of having played in 300 regular-season QMJHL contests.
