Newfoundland's Jordan Pomeroy doing his part for Canada at world junior softball championship

Placentia’s Jordan Pomeroy continued making contributions for Canada as the host side improved to 4-0 at the WBSC Junior Men’s World Softball Championship in Prince Albert, Sask., on Tuesday night.
Pomerol scored a run and drove in another as second-ranked Canada defeated the No. 1 seed New Zealand 8-5 in front of a crowd of more than 5,000.
The result means Canada clinches first-place in Pool B of the 13-team tourney. The Canadians have today off before finishing up their preliminary-round schedule against Hong Kong on Thursday.
The playoff round starts Friday.
Pomeroy, who is playing the outfield in Prince Albert, has driven in seven runs and scored four times for Canada in its four wins. That includes a five RBI performance — on a grand-slam homer and a solo shot — in a 7-0 shutout of Guatemala.
