Both teams representing Newfoundland and Labrador at the Canadian junior curling championships in Shawinigan, Que., were knocked out of medal contention Thursday.
In championship pool play in the junior women’s division, skip Mackenzie Glynn and teammates Katie Follett, Sarah Chaytor and Camille Burt lost 10-1 to Quebec and 10-2 to Alberta, leaving the St. John’s rink with a 5-4 overall record.
They have one more championship pool game remaining today against Nova Scotia, but they won’t be able to finish with a record good enough to be one of the three teams advancing to play for a medal.
In the junior men’s division, Newfoundland’s junior men’s team out of the Corner Brook Curling Club also lost twice Thursday, falling 7-6 to Manitoba and 5-3 to British Columbia.
That leaves skip Daniel Bruce and rinkmates Ryan McNeil Lamswood, Andrew Bruce and Nathan King with a 3-6 record in the championship pool with one game left to play.
