Hockey player Peter Kavanagh of the Southern Shore Breakers is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
Kavanagh enjoyed an eight-point weekend last weekend — all assists — as the Breakers won twice in the first two games of the new East Coast Senior Hockey League.
Friday, Kavanagh registered five assists as the Breakers beat Northeast Eagles 7-2, and Saturday collected three helpers as the Shore downed the St. John’s Caps 7-4 in the Breakers’ home opener.
Kavanagh graduated from the Southern Shore Junior Breakers, after helping that team win the St. John’s junior championship last season. He was third in the junior league’s regular season and playoff scoring race.
