Basketball player Devin O’Leary is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.
O’Leary scored 34 points as the Holy Heart of Mary Highlanders beat the Gonzaga Vikings 81-59 to win the School Sports NL provincial 4A high school basketball championship last weekend in St. John’s.
The win capped a perfect 23-0 season in high school play for the Highlanders, who also won the Hall of Fame Cup, Keith Keating Memorial tournament and Legend City Classic.
In semifinal play, a 77-57 win over the Prince of Wales Collegiate Cavaliers, O’Leary netted 25 points.
