Runner Evan Knight is The Telegram sports department’s choice as Athlete of the Week.
The 17-year-old from St. John’s won the Athletics North East (ANE) One-Mile Road Race last Sunday, finishing the course on the Boulevard side of Quidi Vidi Lake in a time of four minutes and 45 seconds.
It’s been a pretty good month of May for Knight. He was part of the provincial under-18 soccer team that claimed the title at the Atlantic Showcase in St. John’s, and two weeks ago was announced as being among the recipients of Premier’s Athletic Awards which provides provincial athletes with funding to help offset the cost of training.
Evan’s twin brother, Eric, finished third in the ANE race, also played on the U18 soccer team and also received a Premier’s Athletic Award.
The two as well play high school hockey with the Gonzaga Vikings.
