Swimmer Kate Sullivan is The Telegram sports department’s choice as athlete of the week.

Sullivan, 15, won the bronze medal in the girls’ 15-17 division open-water swim at the Canadian junior championships last Sunday in Winnipeg.

Sullivan had a time of 38 minutes and 40.4 seconds over the three-kilometre course at St. Malo Provincial Park.

That left her 1.3 seconds out of second place and 16.2 seconds out of first.

She was the youngest swimmer among the top eight finishers in the race.

Sullivan won a gold medal in the open-water swim at the 2017 Canadian junior championships in Brampton, Ont., but that was in the 14-15 age category and over a five-kilometre course.
