Bulldogs, The Bigs a win away from matchup in St. John's senior softball final

The four-time defending champions Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs have a two-game stranglehold in the semifinal, while The Bigs are also up two games in their series as the St. John’s Molson Senior Men’s Softball League continued their playoffs Sunday.

At Lions Park, Stephen Strapp had two hits and knocked in two runs to support Sean Cleary as the Bulldogs trimmed NTV Hitmen 6-1. Cleary scattered four hits and struck out 10.

Daniel Dalton also had two hits for Kelly’s, a double and a triple.

Lee Cose (7IP, 6R, 9H, 3BB, 3K) was tagged with the loss. No hitter on NTV had more than one hit.

Kelly’s leads the best-of-five semi 2-0. Game 3 is 8 o’clock Tuesday night.

The Bigs got big performances from pitcher Mark Power (7IP, 1R, 4H, 1HBP, 1BB, 14K) and Donny King (two-run home run in the seventh inning) to beat 3Cheers Bud Light Dodgers 3-1.

The Bigs lead the series 2-0 with Game 3 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Dodgers are without star players Jason Hill and Kyle Ezekiel, who are with the national team in the Dominican Republic for a Pan Am Games qualifier.

Craig Edmunds had two hits for The Bigs, off losing pitcher Colin Walsh (6.2IP, 3R, 5H, 1BB, 12K).

No Dodgers hitter had more than one hit.
