Canada unbeaten in Pan Am softball qualiying tournament

The Canadian men’s softball team is 4-0 at the X Pan American championship ongoing in the Dominican Republic.

Three players from Newfoundland — Jason Hill of St. John’s, Jeremy O’Reilly of Placentia and Kyle Ezekiel of Holyrood — are on the squad, along with assistant coaches John Hill of St. John’s and Les Howey of C.B.S.

Monday, the Canadians thumped the Bahamas 8-1 and followed up with a 2-1 decision over Argentina.

Canada opened the tournament with a 20-0 win over Costa Rica, and beat Belize 11-1.

Canada plays Panama and Guatemala 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. (NL time) today in the Dominican.

The tournament is a qualifier for the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru.
