It’s called the Summer League, but the weather was far from summer-like as Cricket Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2018 outdoor season began over the weekend at the RCAF Grounds in St. John’s.
On a cool and drizzly Saturday, the defending champion Avengers (99 runs for one wicket) defeated the NL Eagles (97 runs for eight wickets), with man of the match Mandho Bandara taking four wickets for the winners.
In the second game of opening day, the Newfoundland Super Kings (125 for two wickets) downed the Bangladesh Tigers (119 for three). Man of the match Rakesh Negi had 51 runs for the Super Kings.
The weather was even poorer Sunday, but the Eagles and Royal Challengers, the fifth team in the league, got in their game, with the Eagles (125 for two wickets) prevailing behind Raheel Zaman’s 42 runs.
The Challengers had 121 runs for five wickets.
