A young golfer with familiar sporting ties to Newfoundland will be joining Golf Canada’s men’s development team next year.

Thomas Critch of Cedar Park, Texas will be one of four rookies on the squad in 2018. Critch is the grandson of Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Famer Stan Cook of St. John’s.

Critch, 17, had three top-20 finishes at American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events in 2017 before finishing tied for 15th at the Canadian junior nationals last summer. He finished tied for second at the junior nats in 2016.

He is set to join the University of Arkansas golf team in 2018.
