Carl English, back in the St. John’s Edge lineup after missing two games, scored the winning basket with less than two seconds remaining in regulation time as the Edge defeated the London Lightning 110-108 Saturday night at Mile One Centre.
English, the National Basketball League of Canada’s top scorer, drove the lane and finished off a layup with 1.5 seconds left on the clock, as the Edge (22-12) pushed past the Lightning (21-12) for the NBL Canada’s Central Division lead.
English scored 16 points and pulled down five rebounds. Alex Johnson paced St. John's with 19 points. Xavier Ford was the Edge’s player of the game with 16 points and nine boards.
The teams meet again 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
