Carl English is a National Basketball League of Canada all-star three times over.
On Monday, the league announced its 2017-18 all-star teams and English, the 37-year-old guard for the St. John’s Edge, was a first-team selection to the league’s overall all-star squad, to the all-Canadian team comprised of domestic players and to the all-playoff team.
English, who finished second overall in NBL Canada scoring by averaging nearly 24 points per game, was named the league MVP and helped the expansion Edge to the playoffs, where they lost to the eventual champion London Lightning in the Central Division final.
Forward Charles Hinkle of the Edge was selected to the league’s second all-star team after he finished fourth in league scoring (20.7 ppg). He was also named to the second all-playoff team.
Alex Johnson and Grandy Glaze of St. John’s got nods as all-Canadians.
Johnson, who topped the Edge is assists and steals, was named to the second team, while Glaze was a third-team selection after finishing third in rebounds for St. John’s.
The league also named all-defensive and all-rookie teams, but there were no selections to either from the Edge.
