Forsey runs well in return from injury
The 20-year-old from Kippens, who competes for the West Virginia University Mountaineers, turned in a 5,000-metre time of 16 minutes and 5.89 seconds, good for 14th overall, on an outdoor track at the Stanford University Invitational track and field meet in Palo Alto, California on Friday.
Her time was only three seconds off her provincial record set when representing Canada at the IAAF World Junior championships in 2014.
“Jillian (Forsey) ran a tremendous race,” Mountaineers coach Sean Cleary said after the race. “She ran the second fastest time of her life and achieved a mark that will be required for the NCAA Championships. Jillian (Forsey) ran a little faster than we expected her to run today. This bodes well for the season.”
