The St. Lawrence Labatt Laurentians and Feildians Ernst and Young played to a scoreless draw in Molson Coors Challenge Cup soccer Sunday at Feildian Grounds
John Douglas was in net for the Laurentians, while David Hickey was in goal for the Double Blues.

Province’s U13, U14 girls teams
win silver in Atlantic championships
Newfoundland and Labrador teams won two silver and two bronze medals in Atlantic youth soccer championships over the weekend.
The province won silver in the girls’ under-13 tournament held in Conception Bay South and the girls’ under-14 event in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Newfoundland won bronze in U13 and U14 boys’ events held in the same locations.

Rock unbeaten as inaugural
Atlantic league season finishes up
The Newfoundland Rock completed a perfect 4-0 season in the newly-formed Atlantic Senior Men’s Rugby League with a 60-15 win over New Brunswick Black Spruce Saturday at the Swilers Rugby Complex in St. John’s.
Patrick McNicholas was a standout, leading the team with two tries and five conversions for 20 points on the day.
Chris Browne and Jason Picco each scored two tries for the winners. Alex Rogers, Bob Rogers, Daniel Lantos and Garrett Cullen scored one try each.
Andy Nyenhuk, Brent Garrish and Emil Sehic had tries for New Brunswick.
Nova Scotia finished the league at 2-2 while New Brunswick was 0-4.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Canadian Rugby Championships open Thursday in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Newfoundland is represented by under-18 and under-16 male teams men, along with under-20 and senior women.

Right fielder Paul George had two hits as Feildians Ellsworth Group defeated the Metro Property Management Knights 6-2 in St. John’s Molson senior baseball Sunday at Smallwood diamond.
Greg Barry (6.2IP, 2R, 8H, 1W, 3K) tossed the win with relief help from John Walsh.
Tyler Holwell (6.1IP, 6R, 8H, 1W, 3K) took the loss. Bandon Jackson finished up for the Knights
Shawn Beson had two hits for the losers.

Scott Goosney (6IP, 4R, 3H, 3W, 5K) got the win over Mike Janes (4.1IP, 9R, 8H, 8W, 1K).
Kirk Fleming pitched in relief of Goosney while Gerry Stone finished up for Holy Cross.
Sean Gulliver went three-for-four at the plate for the Trapper John’s Shamrocks. Stoney and James Walsh each had two hits for Holy Cross Trinity Pub.

Capitals take provincial AA crown
St. John’s Capitals defeated Conception Bay North Bulldogs 13-0 Sunday to capture the Pepsi Provincial midget (18-and-under) AA baseball championship.
Andrew Paul pitched a four-hitter and struck out four batters in the mercy-rule shortened, five-inning contest.
St. John’s broke open a 3-0 game with a 10-run fourth. Daniel Rice and John Cooper had two hits each for the Capitals. Bradley Riggs started for the Bulldogs and was relieved by Noah Wilson in the fourth inning.
The Capitals advanced to the final game in the six-team tournament with a 5-3 win over the Conception Bay South Raiders, while Conception Bay North edged the Corner Brook Barons 7-6 in the other semifinal. The Gander Pilots and Mount Pearl Blazers won one game each in the two-pool format.
St. John’s will represent the province at the Atlantic midget AA tournament in Prince Edward Island on the Labour Day weekend.
