Marystown's Ryan Brockerville fifth in Francophone Games steeplechase

Marystown native Ryan Brockerville was less than three seconds short of a podium finish in the men’s 3,000-metre steeplechase Monday at the 2017 Jeux Francophonie (Francophone Games) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Africa’s west coast.

Brockerville’s finishing time of eight minutes, 56.58 seconds put him fifth in the race. The bronze medallist from Tunisia had an 8:53.76 clocking.

The 27-year-old Brockerville, who works and trains in British Columbia, is one of two Newfoundlanders competing in track at these Games. Sprinter Daniel Kelloway of Mount Pearl, a fellow Simon Fraser University alumnus, runs in the 400m heats today.
