Phil Fowler crashes at Eastbound Speedway, but fans help make his Wish come true

Phil Fowler had his day ended early Sunday at Eastbound Speedway in Avondale, but fans in attendance nevertheless went the distance for the racer, whose No. 11 car was sporting the colours and logo of the Children’s Wish Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Racing in the Frontline 100 Division 1 NASCAR race, Fowler was coming off Turn 4 with a car on his outside when the No. 49 car of Gerald Hicks spun off the track. That left Fowler pinned down with nowhere to go. He slammed into Hicks and his day was ended.
That didn’t detract from fans helping with Walsh’s cause, a month-long fundraising venture to grant a Wish child a trip to Disneyworld. By the end of the day, more than $1,300 had been collected towards to the Wish project.
And to help the fans feel more connected to the racing, Fowler donated his bent-up steering wheel as a prize for a dance-off.
