The NBL Canada 2017-18 schedue won’t come out until after a league conference call Wednesday. However, on Tuesday night, Dalla Costa revealed the expansion franchise beginning play out of Mile One Centre in St. John’s later this year will be slotted in a division with the league’s four Ontario-based teams.

That’s to address a geographic skew in the league as there are five teams in the Maritimes. However, while the rest of the NBL Canada entries will operate with schedules that see them play most of their 40-game schedule within their division, Dalla Costa reports St. John’s will have one with more balance — playing the league’s nine other teams four times each, with the remaining four games being made up by particular clubs.

As with American Hockey League teams in St. John’s, the new basketball club will have a schedule that has visiting teams playing doubleheaders at Mile One, although league president Victor Frijia, owner of the defending champion London Lightning, suggested to Dalla Costa that the two games won’t necessarily be back-to-back.
