Lucas won by beating a British Columbia competitor in a tiebreaker, but she only found herself in the first-place tie because she had demonstrated the best kind of sportsmanship earlier in the competition; she called a foul on herself when her hairclip fell out just as she was delivering a ball.

Another Newfoundlander winning a gold medal in single competition in Gatineau was Kyle Slade of Riverdale Lanes in Conception Bay South, who captured the crown in bantam boys play.
