It’s a head-scratcher, no doubt about it.
The St. John’s Edge entered Thursday night’s National Basketball League of Canada game in Kitchener, Ont., with the second-most wins in the league. Their opponents, the KW Titans had the fewest by far, seven fewer than any other club in the NBLC.
Nevertheless, the Titans came away with a 114-111 decision, registering just their fifth win of the season.
And here’s the kicker, or kick in the head, if your with Edge: three of KW’s five wins have been registered against St. John’s (18-11), all of them coming in Kitchener.

The Edge had a chance to win the game, ot at least tie the score, late in Wednesday's contest, as the Titans held a 112-111 lead with less than a minute remaining. But St. John’s couldn’t sink a basket in the last 20 seconds, with Coron Williams, Charles Hinkle and Carl English all missing shots, the latter on a desperation three-point attempt at the buzzer.
The late miss ruined what had been a fantastic night for Hinkle, who had a game-high 39 points, 27 of them coming on 9-for-15 shooting on three-pointers.
English added 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Ryan Reid, in his fourth game of the season, finished with 16 points and seven points.
Williams, in his second game since a return from injury, had 14 points.
Desmond Lee led St. John’s with eight rebounds, while Alex Johnson once again topped the team with seven assists.
Ed Horton was the lading scorer for KW (5-20) with 24 points.
The loss means St. John’s finishes a four-game road trip through southern Ontario with two wins and two losses. The Edge open up a six-game homestand — their longest of the season — March 2 at Mile One Centre.
Their opponents for that game just happen to be the Titans.
