Basketballers Rosie Stanoev and Davion Parnsalu are the latest Memorial University varsity athletes of the week after their performances in weekend Atlantic University Sports (AUS) games at Fredericton, N.B.

Stanoev totalled 16 points, 11 rebounds and three steals and the Sea-Hawks women’s team split a pair of games with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. As well, the fourth year applied mathematics student from St. John’s, led Memorial in floor time in both contests, averaging 31 minutes per game.

With a 5-3 record, the Lady Hawks sit second in the AUS women’s conference.

Parnsalu, a fifth-year business administration student from Ajax, Ont., had 38 points and 14 rebounds in two games against UNB, including 27 points and 10 boards Sunday as the Sea-Hawks prevailed 105-92, handing the Varsity Reds men’s side their first loss of the season.

Parnsalu is among the AUS conference leaders in a number of categories. He’s tied for fourth in assists per page, third in free throws, third in steals an third in minutes play.

The AUS basketball conferences have entered their holiday/exam break. The two Memorial teams won’t return to action until Jan. 6, when they both host Cape Breton Capers entries at the Field House in St. John’s.
