It’s no wonder coach Rosemary Ryan was beaming with pride over the impressive performance of Stephenville Special Olympian Sam Walsh.

“She had an absolutely amazing Games,” Ryan said in an email.
Walsh got a chance to share the medal podium with her fellow Special Olympians at the 2019 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games held in Antigonish, N.S. over the past week.
Ryan, head coach of the provincial Special Olympics track and field team, spent a lot of time helping Walsh get ready for her chance to compete against fellow Special Olympians from coast to coast in Antigonish.
Walsh, whose mom Sheila Walsh also helps coach in the program, picked up a bronze medal in javelin in a field of seven competitors for her trip to the medal podium.
Things were pretty good in her 100-m and 200-m races, recording personal best times in each of them to provide proof her commitment to training help prepare her for the challenge.
She finished fourth in the 100-m race and fifth in the 200-m race.
