The 16-year-old Clarke was the top scorer and for Newfoundland and Labrador’s bronze medal-winning team at the Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC) national under-18 tournament in Calgary last week. He had 42 points, fourth-most of any player at the event, and led all kickers in scoring on 10 conversions and a tourney-leading four penalty kicks.
It was the second national bronze-medal in rugby for Clarke this summer. He was also part of the Atlantic Rock squad that finished third in the Canadian men’s U19 competition in Truro, N.S., in July. He was the fifth-leading scorer at that event.
Also an accomplished soccer and hockey player, Clarke was an 11th-round draft choice of the QMJHL’s Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in June. The former St. Bon’s student is attending St. Andrews College in Aurora, Ont., and will play defence for that school’s varsity hockey team this fall and winter in the Conference of Independent Schools Athletics Association, a league with entries in Canada and the United States.
