There’s parity in senior softball circuit

It was a close race in the five-team St. John’s Molson Senior Men’s Softball League standings, with two teams each finishing with identical records.

The 2017 senior league playoffs opened Thursday night at Lions Park, with first-place Kelly’s Pub Molson Bulldogs playing NTV Hitmen in one series, while 3 Cheers Pub Bud Light Dodgers and The Bigs met in the other best-of-five semifinal.

Kelly's Pub and 3 Cheers Pub both finished with 16-8 records. However, the Bulldogs were awarded first place as they won the season series against the Dodgers 4-2.

Likewise, The Bigs and NTV Hitmen both finished with 12-12 records, and the season series was tied 3-3.

The Bigs were awarded third as they outscored the Hitmen 61-51 in the season series.

The Canada Games squad finished out of the playoffs at 4-20.
