Three of Memorial University’s top basketball players will play their final games at home tonight as the Sea-Hawks’ men’s and women’s teams close out the regular season with a game against the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
The teams opened the series at the Field House Friday night. The final regular season games are noon today (women’s) and 2 p.m. (men’s).
Both the women’s team (10-8) and men’s squad (5-13) have qualified for the Atlantic University Sport playoffs, set to open next Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.
Memorial’s Lindsay Taylor of Waterloo, Ont. closes out her MUN career at home today. Entering Friday’s game, Taylor had made 150 career three-pointers made, 10 behind Sea-Hawks legend Michelle Healey for the all-time lead.
Memorial, which has received an average of 19 points per game from Brooklyn Wright in her last nine games, is coming off a sweep of St. Francis Xavier in Antigonish, N.S. last weekend.
As for the Sea-Hawks’ men’s team, it will be bidding good-bye to top scorers Davion Parnsalu and Daniel Gordon.
Gordon, a guard from North York, Ont., entered the weekend sixth overall in AUS scoring, averaging 18.1 points per game. Parnsalu, a, Ajax, Ont. guard, is 15th in the conference with 13.1 points per game.
Memorial entered Friday’s game losers of seven of their last eight games.
