Holy Cross got three goals from Isaac Bonisteel and a second shutout in as many days from goalkeeper Thomas Pieroway as the defending champion Crusaders blanked Paradise C.C. 5-0 Sunday in Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup provincial senior men’s soccer play at King George V Park in St. John’s.
Jake Warren and Steve Delong also scored for Holy Cross , which now sits alone in second place, two points ahead of the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers.
First-place Feildians, which blanked Mount Pearl ProActive Physio 2-0 in Sunday’s second game at KGV, is five points ahead of Holy Cross, which has a game in hand.
Aaron Buckingham and Cesar Figueroa scored, while Braeden Sheppard posted the shutout — one of five registered in weekend Challenge Cup play — for the league-leading Double Blues.
On Saturday at KGV, Pieroway and John Douglas had shutouts as Holy Cross and the St. Lawrence Laurentians played to a scoreless draw.
That result and the Strikers 4-0 win over Paradise Saturday, means C.B.S. is now in third place, a point up on the Laurentians.
In the latter game, Tony Pomroy had two goals for the Strikers, with Nico Boehme and Cameron Duff adding single tallies. Scott Budden had the shutout.
