A couple of C.B.S. goalkeepers who kept their teams perfect in June have been named the Newfoundland and Labrador Soccer Association’s senior players of the month for June.
Sydney Walsh of C.B.S. Kirby United had five shutouts in five games — all victories — last month for her team while Scott Budden of the C.B.S. That Pro Look Strikers was similarly stingy as his team posted five wins and a tie in a half-dozen Johnson Insurance Challenge Cup games in June.
Budden’s month included a streak of 400 minutes without allowing a goal.
While ‘keepers got the play-of-the-month nods in the senior divisions, it was scorers who were recognized when it came to junior honours.
Abigail Evans, a striker for the St. John’s girls under-15 team, had seven goal in three provincial premier league matches in June. Evans, who has bounced back from a severe injury, is also captain of the provincial girls U15 side.
Mycah Winsor of the Feildians Sky Blue entry had 10 points in two games in the boys under-15 Tier 1 premier provincial league — four goals and had two assists in a 9-1 win over Conception Bay South and four helpers in his team’s 8-0 victory over St. John’s.
Winsor also plays for the provincial boys U15 team.
